Real Estate & Community February 2022
As the flowers begin to bloom, our little city of roses (and trees) is coming alive again after a beautiful fall and restorative winter. With the change of season comes soft colors, new beginnings, warmer days and longer nights. Spring is a beautiful time of year and we are ready to turn the page to this next chapter. With the start of the season comes the opportunity to start fresh and new. For this week’s newsletter we wanted to tackle All Things Spring. From new spring decor trends, to spring home maintenance tips and tricks, to new treats to try, activities to take advantage of in our community, and ideas to revamp your backyards and gardens for the spring days and summer nights spent outside with the ones you love. Hello Spring!
Spring Home Decor
With the new season, maybe you are looking for new inspiration… ideas to inspire, brighten a home and create a new and inviting atmosphere. When asked for ideas on new design trends, and how to transform a space our Parkway agents had a lot to say.
Family photos, houseplants and earth tones are classic additions, natural wood accessories, white and glass elements are easy add-ins to an already established space . Greenery and woven baskets with raw wood textures, such as, a cutting board in the kitchen or accent boxes placed around the home add warmth and intrigue. Pro tip: boxes and baskets are good for hiding chargers, plugs, and clutter. A great exterior idea; shutters! Add personality and curb appeal with just a few steps.

Trends comes and go, but sentimental items will never go out of style. Little loved trinkets warm hearts and add an element of coziness. For example, Parkway agent, Angela Garey stacks old books that were her mothers, keeps intricate shells and rocks in glass bowls that she has collected along the years with her kids, and has framed paintings from both her grandmother and great grandmother. No matter the trend, these loving sentiments can always be incorporated. Our last design idea is wreaths, and no they are not just seasonal. Wreaths seems to bring an element of fun and life to a house. Find one from a local artisan or create your own with simple supplies like fresh flowers from The Plant Barn. A wonderful spring time craft and activity can bring in the new season and create a lasting decoration in your home.
Spring Home Maintenance Tips
Spring cleaning does not just apply to the interior of your home… maintain your home for stellar curb appeal and overall preservation of your home. When asked, “ What are some seasonal maintenance tips you advise to both buyers and sellers,” Here is what our Parkway agents had to say….
1. Get Ahead and Stay on Top of It
Ten minutes here, twenty minutes there and you will feel accomplished! – Hobie Jensen @TheJensenGroup DRE#01990048
2. Run Your Sprinklers
Run your sprinkler system early to make sure all heads are working properly…before the summer heat comes. – John Barroso @BarrosoRealEstateTeamDRE#01434090
3. Clean your gutters
Advised by both Tatjana and Jami, if you have not already, clean out your gutters! This is something easily forgotten after fall but clogged gutters can lead to a lot of issues.- Tatjana Zina @TatjanaZina & Jami Mac Intyre @JamiYourRealtorDRE#02031870 & DRE#02072506
4. Start tackling the weeds
Tackle your unwanted weeds and lay fresh bark. This always helps to create a clean and fresh looking yard perfect for the Spring time. – Carli Van Houtte @CarlivSellsREDRE#02051815
5. Clean your Windows
Keep your windows clean and check that your screens are free from rips and tears. When the warmer weather comes and you have your windows open to allow fresh air in, this will assure no mosquitoes or bugs will be joining you. – Lea Johnson @LeaJohnson.RealtorDRE#01975421
6. Service your HVAC
Hot Chico summer days are coming and you do not want to be the phonebook dialer when it’s 110 degrees and your AC is busted! Get your systems (HVAC) serviced! It will start heating up, and you will be glad that you made your appointment and took care of your system… before it got so busy and you no longer can even get an appointment (especially if something goes sideways). Take good care of the things that take care of you; every spring and fall, schedule an HVAC check up! – Stephanie Jensen @TheJensenGroup & Katy Binsley @RealEstateKate.BDRE #01990102 & DRE#02041912

Spring Projects: Backyard Renovations
A backyard can be described as your little piece of nature. Your touch to the outside world. Have fun with it, and make the most of it…Crisp spring evenings and warm summer nights in the backyard underneath the stars do not get much better. Outdoor living spaces help us enjoy Chico even more, being outside and enjoying the beautiful weather we are treated with. Looking for ideas on how to take your backyard to the next level? Here’s what our agents advise…
Add a water feature (especially a bonus if you live along a dry river bed), redo a covered patio to maybe make it larger or add an outdoor kitchen. Build a pergola or add additional outdoor seating. Resurface your pool as summer is just around the corner. Add a hammock for a cozy place to relax and read. Add a mow strip around grassy areas to create clean lines, plant colorful flowers in large pots as accent pieces throughout your backyard. Last but not least, put together an outdoor movie screen and projector for movie nights under the stars.
