Argus Bar and Patio is a downtown cocktail bar that prides itself on using only the best and freshest in-house ingredients. They have a large outdoor patio area, live bands, and food trucks that rotate on Friday and Saturday nights.
‘The Bear,’ has been serving drinks to thirsty college-aged students since the Spring of 1977. Don’t be discouraged though, The Bear is fun for all ages – The Bear is family-friendly and serves classic bar food for a great price.
Parkside Taphouse is a full-service restaurant during the day and one of Chico’s premiere party spots at night. With a full bar and large outdoor area for gathering, Parkside is in full swing by 10pm. A more college-aged crowd can be found here at night.

Swimming Holes
Dive into the refreshing waters of our community's best swimming holes. Whether you're looking for a family-friendly spot with shallow waters, a remote and serene oasis, or a place to sunbathe on warm rocks, our swimming holes offer the perfect escape. Enjoy a day of relaxation and fun at these scenic spots, each with its own unique charm and natural beauty.
Alligator hole is another slow part of the creek and one of the stops along the Yahi Trail. Its shallow water and short hike from the parking area (.75 miles) make it a great destination for little ones. It’s a perfect spot to spend the day or take a dip.
Further along the Yahi Trail is Bear Hole. You won’t miss it with its shiny black volcanic basalt rock formations. Here you’ll find deep sparkling pools of flowing water and warm rocks to sun yourself on. Directly upstream from Bear Hole is Diversion Dam.
The most remote swimming hole in Bidwell Park, and a little under two miles from the Diversion Dam parking area, there are two long, slender pools surrounded by oak trees. Upstream of the small waterfall above Brown’s Hole is a gravel beach.
Five Mile is on the cusp between upper and lower park. The water here is shallower and calmer than upstream, making it an ideal location for children and families. There are restrooms, picnic tables, barbecues and plenty of open space to spread out.
Salmon hole offers a more secluded experience. This hole is the least accessible by car and will require a small hike from the parking lot at the Diversion Dam to reach it. The hike down to the water requires some bouldering, but worth the effort.
The first of many swimming holes along Big Chico Creek. This area also features picnic tables, barbecues, drinking fountains, restrooms, walking trails, horseshoe pits, and plenty of shade trees to relax under during the warm Chico summers.
Trails

Explore these picturesque routes and enjoy the natural splendor of our area.
Lower Bidwell Park is intertwined with paved walking and biking paths, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely and family-friendly stroll! Lower park’s trail is roughly 6 miles roundtrip and is covered with Chico’s most beautiful trees.
This 5 mile out-and-back trail is considered an easier hike and takes around 2 hours to complete. Open year-round, this is a popular trail for hiking, mountain biking and bird watching. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.
Middle trail is a rocky, 8 mile roundtrip hike, with an elevation gain of around 800 feet. This trail connects the north side of Bidwell Park with various other trails and scenic areas. It offers little to no shade.
This is a popular pedestrian-only trail that follows Big Chico Creek. This trail has lots of shade and is 8.8 miles roundtrip. Yahi an ideal route for all skill levels. During summer time you will find tons of swimming holes along the way.
Community Parks

Bidwell Park is the third largest park in California. It is approximately 15 miles long and is separated into 2 distinct sections: Upper Park and Lower Park.
Degarmo Park is a large community park, located in the North part of Chico. It includes softball fields, multi-use turf fields, a playground, dog park, picnic area, walking path and restrooms.
A 40-acre facility located in South Chico with 2 separate playground areas, picnic area, barbecues, restrooms, horseshoe pits, pickleball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, softball fields, soccer fields, multi-purpose sports fields, and an indoor.
Located in North Chico, this 35 acre community park includes a playground, picnic area, barbecues, horseshoe pits, basketball court, softball & baseball fields, and the Sherwood Forest Kids Disc Golf Course.
Children’s Park consists of a 2.9 acre greenbelt with a playground and is located only a short walk to the Bidwell Mansion, Bidwell Bowl Amphitheater, Chico State, downtown Chico, and Big Chico Creek.
A hub for fishing for salmon, steelhead and shad with 4 separate day-use areas; Indian Fishery Day Use Area, Big Chico Creek Day Use Area, Pine Creek Day Use Area, and Irvine Finch River Access. A popular activity is the Sacramento River float.
Bedrock Park is a 3.75-acre park that sits along the Feather River. It offers swimming and a walking path along the river that allows you to reach Riverbend Park and Centennial Plaza. It has a small amphitheater of bleachers and river access for fishing.
This 210-acre park sits along the Feather River has 4 reservable pavilions with grills and seating. There is an accessible beach along the river, multiple play structures, multi-use fields, paved trails, a boat dock, fishing ponds and Disc Golf Course.
Centennial Plaza features a waterfront promenade, river views, a local art display and is only one block away from Historic Downtown Oroville. This space can be rented for weddings/special events.
Hammon Park is a 5.5 acre park located in Oroville with a variety of turf baseball, soccer and football fields. There are 6 separate picnic areas with barbecues and 2 distinct playgrounds, one for children ages 0-6 and one for children ages 7-12.
Bille Park is located in Paradise. It features a playground, large grassy area and group area with ample picnic tables in shade. Each group site comes with a BBQ, table, and benches. Surrounded by a redwood grove, it can be used as event venue space.
Offers hiking/biking trails, fishing, 2 playgrounds and picnic area. Two boat launches on the North side provide water access for personal powered watercraft (kayaks, paddleboards). Swimming, dogs & horses are prohibited. The lake is closed on Wednesdays.
Crain Memorial Park has been described by Paradise Rec District as the hidden gem of Butte County. Located in Concow, this park features a picnic area, restrooms, native plant trail, drinking water, play structure and stunning meadow area.
Dog Parks

From expansive play areas with amenities like pet waste stations and small pools to shaded, fully-fenced parks with separate sections for different-sized dogs, you’ll find everything you need to keep your pup happy and active.
This pet-friendly park consists of one large area for dogs of all sizes with pet waste stations, picnic benches and small pools for your four-legged friends to cool off in.
Dogs may be off leash anytime while in the north side of Upper Park; however, dogs must remain under voice control. Dogs are not permitted in the swimming areas at One-Mile or Five-Mile or any swimming holes located in upper park.
Once known as Lezlie Morrow Memorial Dog Park, this Paradise area dog park offers a well-shaded and fully-fenced play area with separate areas for large and small dogs.
