Real Estate and Design April 2022
Furniture has the simple ability to completely transform a space. Through the creation of new layouts, statement pieces, and design components, the art of furniture is an opportunity to fulfill an imaginative idea, and create a new environment. For this week’s edition of the Parkway Post we are highlighting statement pieces. From pieces that add a pop of color, to those that command your attention when you step into a room and most importantly the ones transformed or repurposed with love, we’ll go over it all. Keep reading for all that and more; including local furniture stores we love! This is the Parkway Post highlighting, Statement Pieces.

Bright Colors
Enough said, capture the attention of your guests through bright pops of colors. Maybe it’s artwork or standout furniture pieces, accent pillows, or bright rugs. Color creates a mood and it can be the perfect way to make a statement and transform an atmosphere.
Large Pieces
You cannot avoid the elephant in the room, especially if the elephant is a large gorgeous piece of furniture…From bookcases, built-ins, mantles, entertainment centers, or massive coffee tables, large pieces can be worth the investment, as well as help, make a room speak for itself. With large pieces, less is more.
Unique Materials
There are so many different fabrics and textures to choose from that help re-design a space. Wood and tile are some favorites amongst our Parkway agents. Textures can be conveyed through furniture, wall designs, and even on the floor through unique pattern settings.
Simplicity
While sometimes it is fun to be bold, simplicity in itself can make a statement. There is something about the calmness and clean lines of simple settings that help create a different type of “bold” environment. Keep it neutral, and minimalistic when styling a simple layout.
Repurposing Furniture
Restoring furniture is a great project that allows for creativity and innovation to flow. If you cannot find that perfect piece, create it! Turn something old into something brand new to you. The options and ideas are endless. Looking for ideas on where to start with your restoration endeavors?! We asked our Parkway agents what furniture they have redesigned…The two main pieces, bed-frames and vintage windows! Old windows add some farmhouse character to a home and usually come with a story. When it comes to bed frames it’s fun to get creative, with different colors and even wallpapers to bring the bed to life!
To begin restoring, find a local thrift store you love! You might have to dig a little, but there’s always something out there. Eighth and Main and Finders Keepers are great local stores filled with treasures! Finders Keepers also shares a lot of restoration processes of furniture they find so check out their social media to follow along with the process!
If you’re looking for something a bit more ‘ready to install’, to ease into the restoration process, we love Nantucket Home and The Address! Sadly, The Address storefront will be closing in May so check them out before it is too late, or continue to stay connected through their website! Stay inspired and open-minded, and the potential furniture ideas you can come up with, find or create, are endless—and remember in crafting they’re no mistakes, just unique creations!

A beautiful table created by Parkway agent, Hobie Jensen for his lovely wife and fellow agent, Stephanie Jensen! The Jensen’s were hosting Thanksgiving in their new home and could not find a table that they both agreed on, so Hobie made one!

Parkway agent, Tatjana Zina, had a custom “Floating Loft Bed” built in her son’s room! It’s her favorite piece of furniture and the handcrafted bed makes this the best room in their home. Oh to be nine again and have this room!

What’s your favorite piece of furniture in your home? Maybe it’s the lawn chairs around your pool—for obvious reasons—or a custom piece that you’ve totally fallen in love with. Your home is your space to transform and fall in love with. Fill it with memories. Here’s what Parkway agent, Katy Binsley had to say about her favorite furniture pieces… “I always love entry way tables and decor. You can tell that it’s the first place to tell a story about the family, as it is the first welcome in. It’s also the perfect area to decorate when it comes to fun holiday seasons! I love how these spaces can be.”
